In 2004, GDR expanded to serve children in India. The adventure in this vast country begins in Delhi where you’ll spend two days acclimating and visiting historical sites – including Gandhi’s eternal flame and the Red Fort.
We then take a spectacular flight to Ladakh, located on the Tibetan Plateau, encircled by the Himalayan, Karakoram and Zanskar mountains towering 25,000 feet above. The clinic is set up in the small town of Leh at 12,000 feet where we provide care to children from throughout the Ladakh valley – home to people of Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian faith.
Days off are spent soaking in the spectacular landscape – taking leisurely walks or more rigorous hikes, and visiting age-old Buddhist monasteries, perched on the highest hilltops. At the conclusion of the clinic, there is an optional sightseeing visit to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
