Do I need to be vaccinated to participate in a clinic?
Volunteers do not need to show proof of vaccination to join a GDR clinic. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to determine whether they will need to show proof of vaccination for any countries where they are volunteering with GDR, or transiting through enroute to the country in which they will volunteer.
Do I need a negative test to participate in a clinic?
GDR no longer requires a pre-departure COVID test. Volunteers should plan to bring two COVID tests with them on their trip.
A volunteer is only required to test if they experience symptoms of a cold/flu/COVID. No other testing is required to join or participate in a GDR clinic.
What happens if I get sick during a clinic?
If a volunteer or trip leader tests positive and is experiencing symptoms of COVID they will need to isolate for 48 hours.
After 48 hours if symptoms are improving and no fever is present (without use of medication), the volunteer or trip leader can return to the group but must wear an N95 mask until they test negative.
If symptoms are getting worse or maintaining, the volunteer or trip leader may not return to the clinic and cannot join group activities.
Travel Interruption and Cancellation: GDR requires all volunteers and trip leaders to have a comprehensive travel insurance policy that covers trip interruption, medical evacuation and medical care. Unfortunately, GDR cannot offer any refund for days missed on the project due to illness. GDR staff are happy to work with volunteers to provide paperwork to submit a claim to their travel insurance company.
GDR is not responsible for any additional travel costs incurred by the volunteer outside of the travel costs that are included in the project fee. Additional hotel room nights, single rooms, meals, transfers, transportation, changes to airlines and fees, etc. due to an illness are the responsibility of the volunteer.
